The first song to open the "Bootleg" page will be a recording from 1997. This is a story song
that tells the tale of how Richard met his wife Michele in Montana. Richard was a 'friend of a
friend', and now Michele and Richard are the best of friends.
"FRIEND OF A FRIEND"
Technically: If you can even say "Technically"! Check this: Recorded on a late 80's Tascam
Porta-Studio 4-Track recorder, straight in with a radio shack condenser mic, through a
Roland DAC-15XD amp for digital delay, a Rickenbacker 330 6 string, Yamaha FG-400
acoustic 6 string, Hofner Bass and Hohner harmonicas.
All the tracking: There are about 4 vocals, 3 guitars, bass, harmonica and drums. About 11
tracks are on this, I sang along with everything - even the drum tracks to get as many
instruments and voices on as possible! Truly a bootleg in every sense.
"I Really Hope This Song Sells"
Yes -a real plea of desperation - I resorted to Country tactics...As a member of Taxi A&R, I
sat in my little home studio and this absurd little number popped out. Thankfully, only 98% of
all listeners hated it. Hey publishers, producers, label execs, and Reba (because I saw your
huge office in Nashville across from Studio B)
- I'm starving here! Help!
Technically: Using my Fender Squire electric - great guitar! This song was written and
recorded in about 2 hours on a Zoom MRS-1608 multi-track console. I just plugged in
straight and went to it.
